Dentons Senior Counsel Participated in the Symposium on the Draft "Foreign Investment Law" Held by the Legal Affairs Committee of the NPC Standing Committee

On January 8, 2019, the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the National People's Congress, the Financial and Economic Committee of the National People's Congress, and the Rule of Law Committee of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress jointly held a symposium to solicit comments on the draft Foreign Investment Law of the People's Republic of China. Cui Fan, a senior counsel from Dentons Beijing office and a professor at the University of International Business and Economics, was invited to attend the symposium and speak.

Hu Keming, deputy director of the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the National People's Congress, presided over the symposium held in the office building of the National People's Congress. The Central Taiwan Affairs Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the People's Bank of China, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Development and Research Center of the State Council, the Supreme People's Court, the National Federation of Industry and Commerce, the China Council For International Investment Promotion, the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, and the China Enterprise Confederation, the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, Microsoft, BMW-Brilliance, Procter & Gamble, Nestle, Wal-Mart and others have sent representatives. Professor Cui Fan, a Dentons senior counsel, was amongst those invited. Officials of the Ministry of Justice, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Commerce also attended the meeting.

The "Foreign Investment Law of the People's Republic of China" (draft) has been approved by the executive meeting of the State Council. The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress has conducted its first review session and is currently seeking opinions from the general public.
