On August 31, 2013, China Urbanization Summit and the 3rd session of the 6th Annual Meeting on China Suburban Economy kicked off at Royal Victoria Hotel, Xiamen. Over 300 leaders, experts, scholars and attorneys from the Development Research Center of the State Council, Institute of Suburban Economy, Xiamen municipal government, Xiamen University and Dacheng were present at the summit. Dacheng chairman Peng Xuefeng, who is also member of the standing committee of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech at the summit.
The two-day summit explored issues concerning major modes of urbanization, transfer of collectively owned land in new-type urbanization, costs and financing for new-type urbanization as well as key regulatory and legislative difficulties in promoting new-type urbanization. By integrating theory and practice of urbanization into policy and law making, the summit explored modes of China’s urbanization and drew experience from the past, in a bid to shed light on the path of new-type urbanization in the future.
